EFTA is an intergovernmental organisation working for the promotion of free trade and economic integration to the benefit of its four Member States; Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The EFTA Secretariat provides services to the EFTA States and has offices in Geneva, Brussels and Luxemburg. The Headquarters in Geneva services the EFTA Council and provides services for policy development, negotiations and implementation of free trade and cooperation agreements with countries outside the European Union. The Brussels office supports the management of the EEA Agreement and assists the Member States in the elaboration of input to EU decision-making. EFTA’s Luxembourg office contributes to the development of the European Statistical system
We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified candidate to take on the challenging post of an officer responsible for, standardisation, conformity assessment and marking, harmonisation of technical regulations as well as relevant Technical Barrier to Trade (TBT) issues. The successful applicant will contribute to the policymaking at European level and will represent EFTA in the European and international dialogues in the relevant areas.
The post entails keeping an overview and engage in several policy fields to facilitate cooperation between the relevant experts and representatives from the EU, European standardisation and accreditation organisations and EFTA. The officer has the role as secretary to the EFTA TBT Committee that reports directly to the EFTA Council. The successful candidate will coordinate and assist the EFTA States in policy development at European level as well as analyse and communicate new relevant EU policy or legislation and developments within the European standardisation and accreditation organisations. Building networks with a variety of organisations and representatives of various levels, is an important part of the post. The successful candidate will represent EFTA at General Assemblies and other meetings in the European Standardisation Organisations (CEN, CENELEC and ETSI) and in European Accreditation. The post also includes responsibility for the administration of grant agreements. The successful candidate must be willing to travel, mostly within Europe.
The candidate must be willing to take on other tasks as required, e.g. facilitate the integration of new legislation into the EEA Agreement by ensuring the co-ordination and support services to the relevant EFTA working groups and expert groups.

Annual salary: EUR 108,329
Appointments are normally made at the first step of the grade. The Secretary-General reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a level different from that advertised. Through its recruitment policy, the EFTA Secretariat wants to ensure diversity in terms of gender, age and culture.
EFTA is an international organisation, and the salaries and related payments are normally exempt from income taxation by the EFTA Member States and in the host states of the EFTA duty stations. Depending on the candidate’s family status, benefits and allowances may apply.
